Photography Awards

Capturing the excitement and thrill of an awards ceremony is always a privilege. Usually, I capture a number of different aspects of the event, these include:
  • The arrival of guests in their best clothing
  • Networking and mixing of guests over light refreshments - this is an ideal opportunity to capture individuals and small groups interacting, with some posed photographs thrown in!
  • The speeches and award ceremony itself
  • The winner group photos
  • All of the guests assembled together

This photograph was taken at the Celebration Evening of the Institute of Directors Student Membership £10 Challenge in Nottingham.

Students were split into teams and, under the careful eye of a business mentor, set about making as much profit as possible. Mentors are all influential business leaders from the local area and add so much to the event. All of the money raised goes to the John Van Geest Cancer Research Centre, a purpose-built research centre based on Nottingham Trent’s Clifton campus that aims to save lives by improving the diagnosis and treatment of various cancers.

This particular event photograph is of one of all of the guests together. Nottingham Trent University has a really exciting campus with very modern architecture. To break with the traditional long line group shot I decided to get something of the context of the building as well.

This photograph is made up of four separate images and consequently is fairly large. The front page of the Institute of Director Magazine was able to just use a small portion to show the winners off. But, this gives the IOD the option of using this single image in a variety of formats and crops.
