Braving the English snow, Sydney born florist Elizabeth McKenna gave a rousing talk at the Institute of Directors Business Luncheon in Nottingham.
This photograph was taken after Elizabeth McKenna's talk on leadership to the assembled business directors. She was able to draw upon her recent experience on TV show ‘The Apprentice’ and apply that to driving herself and her business forward.
It was a great event, and Elizabeth was inspiring to all those who attended. Despite being a national TV star she was very down to earth and was willing to help us all with the story of her success, her vision, and her way of working.
Elizabeth is neither shy nor retiring. During the filming of the TV series she was frequently described as ‘slightly bonkers’. I thought that this image captured her personality really well.
Firstly she is posed in an authoritative pose looking down on the viewer. The lighting in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nottingham reminds me of lightning ideas coming from her head, with the flowers next to her to add context.
Visually all the leading lines point directly at Elizabeth.
One difficulty was the light when capturing the photograph. There is a strong colour cast under the different lights along this seated area. I gave the whole image a slightly warm wash to both even out the lighting differences as well as make the image more welcoming.
This final image was my favourite from the day.
