There is nothing like getting lost on a forest pathway!
As I shuffle along I know that the pathway must lead somewhere (otherwise it would not be there) - but where I actually am is another matter! Escaping from GPS going native without electronic help is always more fun in the forest.
This forest pathway was in the ancient forest that makes up Padley Gorge. One of my favourite places in the Peak District National Park. The pathway is overgrown with the roots of ancient forest trees that are gasping for any nourishment and water that they can find. They remind me of snakes slithering about the forest floor.
The trees of Padley Gorge are strangely shaped as they have struggled amid the dense forest to find a gleam of sunlight.
This photograph is actually four photographs 'stitched' together. The resulting photo is huge and full of detail.
